Sibshops is for children ages 6-13 who have a brother or sister with a disability or a chronic health concern. Children can attend once, or can attend every time, to enjoy friendship and activity and learning together.

2010-2011 Education & Support Series for Parents of Children with

Special Needs or Challenging Behaviors
 

 

South Dakota Parent Connection and USD Center for Disabilities are excited to host a series of FREE presentations for parents of students with attention, autism spectrum, cognitive, emotional/behavioral, or learning disorders. 

 
Meetings will be held September 9 through May 12 on the second Thursday of each month from 7-8:30pm Central Time/6-7:30pm Mountain Time. Childcare is not provided.

September 9 - What Parents Need to Know (About Sexuality)

Discussing issues of sexuality is often uncomfortable for parents and youth.  This session will help parents plan how they want to prepare youth for the changes of puberty and adolescence. Presented by SD Parent Connection.

October 14 - Managing Behavior in the Home

Strategies for responding to behavior issues at home are consistently ranked as a priority need by parents. This session will focus on the basics of managing behavior at home while offering strategies to deal with everyday problems. Presented by Ruth Fodness, School Psychologist.

January 13 - Managing Behaviors at School

What is the school's responsibility when it comes  to your child's behavior?  This session will discuss behavioral assessments and positive behavior plans that schools should utilize to ensure student success is supported and behavior is dealt with in a positive, proactive way.
